SwapSages exists because eco-product marketing is full of vague claims and very little verification. "Eco-friendly" on a label doesn't tell you what's actually in the bottle, whether a certification is real, or whether the product costs more per use once you account for how long it actually lasts.

The problem isn't motivation — everyone wants to make greener choices. The problem is information: most eco-content is either vague or written without checking the specifics against what's actually verifiable.

So that's what we check: real ingredient and material breakdowns, real certifications (EPA Safer Choice, EWG, GOTS, and similar — verified directly, not taken from the brand's own copy), and honest price-per-use math against the conventional product being replaced. If a product doesn't hold up against its conventional equivalent on that basis, we don't recommend it — no matter how "eco" the branding is.

What began as a handful of laundry and kitchen swaps has grown into hubs covering everything from mineral sunscreens to compostable pet waste bags. When two products are close enough that the honest answer is genuinely "it depends," we put them side by side on a head-to-head comparison instead of forcing a single winner.

He oversees the site's editorial standards and personally vets every affiliate partnership before a product goes live, so a product being recommended here means someone actually checked it, not that a brand paid for placement.
