Our story

Built for people who want to
do better, not be perfect.

SwapSages started because we got tired of eco-products that promised the world and delivered nothing.

I started SwapSages after spending over $150 on eco-products in a single month — and finding that most of them either didn't work as well as what they replaced, or were so inconvenient that my family stopped using them within a week.

The problem wasn't motivation. Everyone wants to make greener choices. The problem was information. Most eco-content is either vague or written by people who've never actually used the products in a normal household.

So I started testing. Every product on SwapSages has been used in a real home. If it doesn't outperform or at least match its conventional equivalent, we don't recommend it — no matter how "eco" the branding is.

What began as a handful of laundry and kitchen swaps has grown into six hubs — Clean Personal Care, The Conscious Home, The Eco-Workspace, Sustainable Living, Conscious Parenting, and Mindful Pet Care — covering everything from mineral sunscreens to refurbished laptops to compostable pet waste bags. The same rule still applies to every one of them: if it doesn't genuinely work, it doesn't get recommended. When two products are close enough that the answer is genuinely "it depends," we put them side by side on a head-to-head comparison instead of forcing a single winner.

Our editorial values

  • We test everything in real households — not lab conditions
  • Honest reviews include failures, not just wins
  • We verify certifications — no greenwashing
  • Affordable by default — eco shouldn't be a luxury
  • All affiliate links are disclosed transparently

Written by more than just us

SwapSages now runs a small partner program — writers who know a category well can contribute guides, quizzes, and product comparisons, and keep 70% of the affiliate commission their work generates. Every submission goes through the same editorial bar as everything else on the site before it goes live. Meet the people currently writing for us on the partner page.

Tell us what actually happened

Every post now has a comments section where you can leave a star rating and share what happened when you tried a swap yourself — good or bad. We read every one, and they shape what we test next. Got a question we haven't covered yet? Ask it directly and it'll get a real answer from a contributor, not a generic FAQ — browse past questions at /qa.
