A ripstop weave in recycled nylon resists tearing just as well as the same weave in virgin nylon. What Actually Determines Durability: Denier and Seams
Denier — the thickness and weight of the fabric's fibers — is the real predictor of how much abuse a tote can take before tearing, and it's independent of whether the nylon is recycled. What Daily Use Actually Wears Down
Over repeated use, the most common failure points were, in order: handle seams under heavy loads, the zipper or closure mechanism on the packing pouch, and eventually the ripstop weave itself if snagged on something sharp (airport carts, zippers on other luggage). None of these are specific to recycled nylon — they're generic packable-bag wear points regardless of material sourcing.

Recycled nylon totes are genuinely as durable as virgin nylon ones — don't let sustainability messaging make you assume a durability tradeoff that isn't there. When choosing one, check the denier rating and look for reinforced handle seams; those two specs matter more for daily-use durability than the recycled-vs-virgin question.
